Lady with a Silky Red Bow — Hand-pulled silkscreen print by local artist R T Penwill
This work is entirely hand-made! From the ten-layer silkscreen print to the bespoke plywood mount and frame, everything has been created by the artist in his Honiton studio.
The silkscreen process involves pulling a rubber blade across a stretched mesh fabric, causing a layer of ink to pass through the fabric onto the target surface below. Using a variety of registration techniques, more layers can printed, adding depth to the colours as well as complexity to the image itself.
This work is part of a series titled ‘Recognising Expressions and Navigating Conversations’ that invites the viewer to consider these twin subjects and in particular how they are experienced by the neurodivergent population.
